My name is Florence Waters, and I’m an illustrator and animator based in the south of the UK. I’m a recent graduate of the Royal College of Art, where I earned a Master’s degree in Visual Communication, and I also hold a First-Class Honours degree in Graphic Arts from the University of Southampton.
My creative practice centres on storytelling and narrative digital illustration, working primarily in Procreate, Procreate Dreams, and the Adobe Suite. Recently, I’ve expanded my work into stop-frame animation and set production for film.
My graduation film, Something So Lovely, was honoured with two Webby Awards in the Student category—both the People’s Voice and the Judges’ Award—and received the Varley Memorial Award, marking a proud conclusion to my time at the RCA. In 2023, my silent book was a finalist in the Silent Book Contest and exhibited at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair.
Alongside my film and illustration work, I create short-form social media content that extends the same principles of storytelling, emotion, and reflection into accessible, diary-like pieces. These works explore everyday experiences and mental health through a comforting visual language, connecting audiences to stories that feel both personal and universal.
I first turned to art after being diagnosed with ADHD. I often found it difficult to express complex emotions through words, until a therapist suggested I try drawing them instead. That moment became the foundation of my creative journey and continues to guide the heart of my work today.
Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Adobe, Camden Council, Richard Walters, and Galeries Lafayette. Alongside my creative practice, I’m also an educator, having been a visiting lecturer for Winchester School of Art (University of Southampton), Oxford University’s Art Society, and various KS1 schools. I remain deeply connected to my local community as an artist in residence at Goldfinch Bookshop.
